About me:
I have worked for PLCMC for 7 years. I am the youth service person and I have circulation desk duties-sort of an everything person. I like to garden, listen to music, read and collect Hello Kitty items. I love to take pictures. My husband is from England and we have 3 children. I have a cat, a dog and 2 quaker parrots that are lots of fun. I LOVE the beach!

PDF Form Filler Freeware

I have bookmarked this for future use. Any site that can do anything to make a PDF form easier has my vote. Now, if they could only come up with a program to help people print. We charge 10 cents a page for copies. Yes, that little bit on the second page does count! Yes, the extra 20 page… Continue

PDF

Sometimes it breaks my heart to see someone trying to fill out a PDF form that simply cannot be filled out without being printed out. What are these companies thinking of? First of all, most of these people applying for a job have a hard time just finding the company website. They a… Continue

Facebook and more Facebook

I finally joined FB and it is truly enjoyable. Annabel was very persuasive-thank you! Most of my family and their friends have private FB-and to them I say-thank you. I think this is a great site to connect to the library. Speaking of advertising and connections-cost aside-why do libraries d… Continue

Some thoughts about blogging...

Just finished an article in The New York Times Magazine about a blogger's experience. It is a long article, but worth the read.

Oh no, Sandy, #61 is Facebook too! Do we need to keep meeting like this on the Ning? I do wish you would join me on Facebook. It is so good for keeping in contact - for all sorts but for me it is great for the people on the other side of the Pacific! You can find me here any time you join up on Facebook.

Glad you like the black and white purring and mewing kitty. My cats get quite concerned when I play with it. They become very alert and wonder who is the cat I have on the desk. I came across it on a couple of foodie blogs. So I guess you led me to the kitty too ;>)

I agree about the cooking beginners. Tastespotting has a real mixture of stuff, basic to very specialized. Bakespace.com is similar - I think a lot of the people there are just people interested in learning though there are also regular foodbloggers. I am really enjoying my membership of Foodbuzz.com in particular; I seem to have found more synergy in interests there and am having fun. The interesting thing about this site is that I am making friends with people I don't know through other circles, whereas with Facebook etc it is the opposite.

Sandy, I wanted also to thank you for introducing me to Smilebox. I was doing the Thing just after a friend and former colleague died at 40 from breast cancer. As a result I did a remembrance of Lizzie on it as my task. On the weekend I shared it with a number of her friends and they have been so pleased with it. Web 2.0 has a role in many parts of our lives.

Thanks - I had looked at Tastebook. A wiki is another possibility. At present I have just set up a blog called the Librarian and the kitchen and am enjoying playing with that. I also want to get a couple of old handwritten family recipe books from my mother and try to work out what to do with those. You have really started me off now!

Hi Sandy
I used http://www.notcelebrity.co.uk/ to make the New Year sign. I have used it before as part of learning 2.0 and had my name in lights this time I just changed the text.

Sandy - I heard back from Plaxo, but sadly what I heard is that they do not support blog feeds that originate at Ning.

You might try running your Ning RSS feed through Yahoo! Pipes (http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/) ...
1. Click Create a Pipe
2. Drag the Fetch Feed option to the working area on the right
3. Put the feed URL (from clicking the RSS link at the bottom of your Ning blog) into the box
4. Connect the Fetch Feed to the Output box. To do that, click the Fetch Feed box, hold your mouse button down and draw/drag a line to the "Output" box at the bottom.
5. Click "Save," give the Pipe a name
6. Click "Run Pipe".
7. Click Publish.
8. Click subscribe
9. Click the top option, Get as RSS.
10. Copy the URL from your address bar, plug that into Plaxo.

Based on my experiments, it should work.

That's a bit complex, I know, BUT at some point I'm sure that Yahoo! Pipes is going to be a discovery exercise, and you'll be a big step ahead when that happens.
